    ECAA1 – Turkish Worker Visa

    Who is Eligible to Apply:

    A Turkish National who wishes to be permitted to remain in the UK as a Turkish Worker  must:

    • be a Turkish National, and
    • have worked in the UK legally for at least one year.

    Grant of Permission to Stay

    Permission to stay in the UK as a Turkish worker may be granted to a Turkish National who has legally worked in the UK for at least one year as:

    • the spouse of a British or settled person without any restrictions on working in the UK
    • the holder of a valid work permit allowing work in the UK  
    • a student allowed to work twenty hours a week during term time and full time during vacation periods.

    Duration of Stay 

    The period of stay and the nature of work allowed vary according to the length of time the applicant has legally worked in the UK:

    How long worked             Length of permission                      Allowed

    1-3 years                                Up to 2 years                  Continue to work for same employer

    3-4 years                                Up to 1 year                  Change employer but same occupation

    4+ years                                Up to 3 years                Work in any occupation for any employer

    Indefinite Leave to Remain

    Completion of four years legal employment under this category does not lead to Turkish workers being granted settlement rights in the UK.

    It will be necessary to continue working in the UK for a total of ten years in order to become eligible to make an application for indefinite leave to remain.

    Family Members

    A Turkish Workers Application may include family members which includes:

    • spouses
    • civil partners
    • unmarried and same sex partners and,
    • children under 21,

    who must be able to demonstrate that they are genuine family members in order to be granted consent to join, or remain with the Applicant.
