Naturalisation is the process by which a person who has been granted Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK can apply to become  a British Citizen and obtain a British Passport.

Who is eligible to apply for Naturalisation?

To become a British Citizen an applicant must be able to fulfil the following criteria:

  • Be 18 years of age or older;
  • Be of good character
  • Have passed the Life in the UK test
  • Have sufficient knowledge of the English language;
  • Continue to live in the UK; and
  • Meet the residency requirement.

The Residency Requirement

To meet the residency requirement the applicant must have resided in the UK for at least 5 years prior to the date of the application and had permanent residence (Indefinite Leave to Remain) in the UK for the last year.

In addition to the above, the applicant must have remained in the UK for at least 275 days in the year leading up to the application and for at least 1375 days in the five years prior to the application.

Assistance with Application | Kangs Immigration Solicitors

Kangs Solicitors has an established specialised Immigration department, able to assist in all aspects of Naturalisation throughout the process from preparing the original application to making representations should the application be refused.

Our expert legal team can assist you:

  • in preparing the Naturalisation Application
  • advising on the supporting documentation required
  • advising on whether there may be any issues which need to be addressed prior to making the application.

Once an Application for Naturalisation has been received by UK Visa and Immigration you will be requested to register your biometrics at a Post Office which provides this facility.

Once your application is successful, you will be invited to attend a local Citizenship Ceremony and, following  taking the oath/making the affirmation, you will receive a Certificate confirming your British Citizenship.

UK Visa Immigration Fees

The Application Fee  payable  is £1,236.00 and, as this is a substantial amount of money, it is clearly essential that you are properly advised and supported from the outset to ensure that your documentation is properly prepared and presented providing the best possible chance of securing  a successful application.
